The 11th birthstone by El-Arte-de-Angelina The 11th birthstone by El-Arte-de-Angelina
This table is first of my series of "the 12 birthstones".

This miniature table is based in the birthstone of November; Topaz.

This stone has many shades, the one chosen here was yellow, so the entire table has shades of yellow everywhere.
Let's start with the book; it has legend and lore about Topaz; and how important was this stone was different cultures like the Egyptian who considered it to be the glow from the God Ra. Also, it says the romans and greeks thought topaz could give extra strength, invisibility, could heal certain diseases and keep death away.
There's a golden box at the bottom, some candles, an unlabeled potion, a "Chrysantemum" jar containing some flowers (the flower of November), "Amon Ra's glow" potion, some mushrooms (decoration XD) and also yellow crystals. There's a preparation board with a little spoon, perhaps for mixing some potions.
Under the golden box, there's a book with ancient pages. 3 candles, a closed envelope, and you can see there's a reproduction of Claude Monet's "Vase with chrysantemums".
And, a "hanging lamp" at the left of the table.

This is what i've used to make this diorama:
cardboard, pine strings, fimo, cork, old candy golden wrapping, pieces of balsa wood, fabric leftovers, acrylic paint, glue, a small bead for the hanging lamp, golden string, my hands, imagination and patience ;)
The crystals are yellow quartz from Brazil since, i dind't have pieces of topaz among my minerals.

Charming and delightful!

Just please, please tell me you're using the original birthstones, including turquoise, pearl, and opal, rather than the modern ones with zircon and such--a systemp that, as far as I can tell, was invented by cheap jewelry companies so they could just use clear colored glass for everything.

Me? On the old system, I'm Opal. In the new one? Rose Zircon. Pfeh! ;)

Hello there!
I'm so glad you like my work! :huggle::huggle:

This was intended to have real topaz, but since the book was going to be given away as a gift on the following day, i had to use another "similar in color" stone. Not happy about it, really but i was out of time.
And yes, my intention is to buy the real stones, tiny pieces of course!, i have a few (like aquamarine, ruby and 1 or 2 more) and i want the birthstone tables to show the real stones :)

Oh, I wasn't actually asking about the authenticity of the stones (you were clear in your description about why you used the stones you did in this case); I was just wondering which birthstone _system_ you intend to use. The system in use when I was a child included various stones that weren't clear crystals, such as pearl, turquoise, and opal. However, many modern jewelers use a system with clear crystals only, so (for example) October's classic opal has been replaced by rose zircon.

Not a big question in either case; just idly curious.

More importantly: WOW! I am amazed by these, both the books themselves and the full table arrangement. Your friend is very, very lucky. Thank you for sharing these with us!

Oh ok! i get your point, well now that you ask, the birthstone series is going to be based in a poem i've found when looking for inspiration ;) [link]

The book was the only thing that was given away, the rest of the table and contents are with me :)

LOL, so funny that you mention the chrysantemum! yea i'm not glad with that! it's some old clay flowers i've done years ago since, i was out of time as usual and the book was going to be given away the following day! so ... i had to hurry -.-""
